The uniform
Ohio sheriffs and deputies wear a standardized uniform to remain consistent statewide. We carry Flying Cross and Elbeco to properly outfit deputies.
We keep some pants, shirts and other items in stock at the store. If something is not here, we will place an order, and items that are in stock at the warehouse reach the shop within about a week.

Ohio sheriffs and their heritage
Ohio’s first recorded sheriff
Colonel Ebenezer Sproat is appointed. His jurisdiction covers all of Washington County, which spanned eastern Ohio from the Ohio River to Lake Erie.
Statehood and elections
With statehood, sheriff becomes one of only three elected public offices in Ohio. William Skinner is the first elected sheriff.
Since the early 1800s, Ohio sheriffs have been elected at the county level by the people they serve. It is the oldest law enforcement position in the United States and the only remaining law enforcement office filled by election. County sheriffs in Ohio serve four-year terms.
In each of Ohio’s 88 counties, the sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer, providing common pleas court services and corrections countywide and full police protection to the unincorporated areas, while maintaining full police jurisdiction in every municipality, township and village.
